The films opening this weekend are not the best crop, but if you do venture out to the theater here are the few that get the Mandelbrot nod.
Directed by: Rian Johnson
Starring: Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano
This movie seemed to come out of nowhere. I really haven’t heard anything about it until the last couple of weeks and what I’ve heard is that it’s pretty good. Gordon-Levitt plays a “Looper”, a mafia hitman of the future that can travel anywhere in time to whack people – but during one of Levitt’s assignments he finds out that he was sent to the future to kill his future self. Trippy man. What’s also trippy is J. G. Levitt undergoing special make-up effects to look more like a younger Bruce Willis. Eat your method-acting heart out Robert DiNiro.
Directed by: Genndy Tartakovsky
Voices of: Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon
This cartoon really doesn’t look that great but like I said, this weekend the pickin’s are slim. At least its only Adam Sandler’s voice here – he plays Dracula who turns his castle into a hotel for monsters, which I guess seems sorta fun, but yeah look for this one to be at your local Rite-Aid Redbox video rental in a week or two.
Directed by: Daniel Barnz
Starring: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Holly Hunter
I almost didn’t add this movie to my list but having a “Go See a Movie This Weekend” post with only 2 films just seemed wrong, so here I am promoting this crap. To be honest I don’t really know if it’s crap or not, but I figure I got a 99% chance that is it. I mean how many movies do we need where the white person saves the black persons school? If you do decide to go see this movie, be prepared to have that stupid Tom Petty song stuck in your head for all of eternity!
