Go See a Movie This Weekend!

Dudes, the last couple of weeks there really hasn’t been anything that great coming out. But, Oscar season is just right around the corner and there are some cool looking movies on the plate. Until then, here are some films opening today that might be worth checking out.

Directed by: Tim Burton

Voices of: Charlie Tahan. Frank Welker, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau

Tim Burton’s first film he ever made was Frankenweenie – a short little film that you could find on video if you looked hard enough (now you can watch the whole thing on YouTube. Check it out HERE). I do believe I watched it back in the days and liked it, so I’m stoked about this big budget, animated re-make. Burton has been hit or miss lately (mostly miss) hopefully going back the well of some of his earlier work will prove to be a hit.

The Paperboy

Directed by: Lee Daniels

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, John Cusack, Nicole Kidman, Scott Glenn

Although there seems to be a lot of bad reviews out there for this film, Roger Ebert dug it (read his review HERE) and the killer cast can’t be denied – although I guess I could deny Zac Efron. I was thinking about McConaughey the other day and feel that this dude, in the right hands, has a performance in him that will make people sit up and take notice of him once again – like when he first came on the scene in that film A Time to Kill and people were comparing him to a young Paul Newman. But really, he reminds me of Travolta and the way his career went. Started off strong then went south and he started making shit movies but then everything changed with one awesome film. McConaughey needs a Pulp Fiction. And when he gets it, he is gonna blow people away. Anyway, sorry about that, got a little side tracked – I say go check out this movie!
