THE TOP 31 HORROR MOVIES OF ALL TIME
Directed by: Tobe Hooper
Starring: Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight
Plot: While living an an average family house in a pleasant neighborhood, the youngest daughter of the Freeling family, Carol Anne, seems to be connecting with the supernatural through a dead channel on the television. It is not for long when the mysterious beings enter the house’s walls. At first seeming like harmless ghosts, they play tricks and amuse the family, but they take a nasty turn- they horrify the family to death with angry trees and murderous dolls, and finally abduct Carol Anne into her bedroom closet, which seems like the entrance to the other side.
1982 was the most awesome year in movies that ever was and probably ever will be. Check out the films that came out that year: E.T the Extraterrestrial, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, First Blood, The Dark Crystal, Conan the Barbarian, Blade Runner, Creepshow. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Thing, Tron, and Zapped (starring Scott Baio). Holy shit man, that’s almost too many rad films for one year, and adding to the radness was Poltergeist, Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg’s little ghost story that became a sensation and since 1982 anytime anything creepy or weird happens in our lives we utter those 2 words in that little girl voice, “They’re heeeerrrreee.” There are a ton of great scenes in this movie (did you know they used real skeletons for the pool scene at the end and didn’t tell the actors until afterwards? that’s fucked up Tobe), but my favorite ones are the quiet scenes in the house, with the ghost hunters whispering about the afterlife and the dead – I don’t think I got a good nights sleep at all in 1982.
